Day 8 of the 31 Days of Books Giveaway – Which Authors Are On Your Auto-buy List?
January 8th, 2014

Congratulations to Michele, who won yesterday’s drawing! I’ll be emailing Michele to arrange delivery of her choice of book.

Yesterday we were chatting about glomming books, so today it only seems natural that we segue into an easy topic for every reader: Who are your favorite authors?

I said easy, but as every reader knows, it’s hard to name only one! When I’m asked this question, I have to refer to my auto-buy list. Who are the authors whose books I buy without even reading the back cover? Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb is one, right off the bat. She has been one of my favorites since I read her first book back in the early 80’s. Nora was the first author who made me start noticing who actually wrote the book I had so enjoyed. I remember being confused once because I didn’t get the same feeling from a book I had just finished, and then I realized that what I had just read was by a different author with the same last name. Nora Roberts became the first author on my auto-buy list.

Since then she has been joined by Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle, Marjorie M. Liu, Robin D. Owens, Susan Squires, Cate Rowan, Susan Meier, Jenna Kernan, Beth Yarnall, Shannon Donnelly and Mercedes Lackey. There are more, but those are the top tiers.

What about you? Who are the favorite authors on your auto-buy list? Those who comment get entered in today’s drawing for a free paperback title from my backlist!

I’m a Deb Mullins fan! LOL

I too like Nora Roberts and Jenna Kernan…but lately I’ve found myself turning to some new names. Laura Kaye. Robin Covington.

What I have found though, in romance, is that there is a big group of very talented, very experienced authors that we can choose from. We can buy the books of any of these authors and be happy campers!

I’m not sure any other genre can say that.

Well I love fantasy books and romance:
Mercedes Lackey, Anne Bishop, Roxanne St. Claire, Angie Fox, Larissa Ione, Donna Grant

I got lucky and discovered Mercedes Lackey when ARROWS OF THE QUEEN first came out. Since then, I’ve been a happy Valdemar reader ever since. I actually have two sets of The Last Herald Mage books because I read the first ones so much, they were falling apart!

      • Raonaid Luckwell says:

<3 <3 An past friend (we have parted ways recently) she and her mother introduced me to Lackey's Valdemar world.

They loaned me The Last Herald Mage trilogy and Arrows trilogy. I read TLH first and OMG I was hook.

took me three years to get the full completion of the series

  3. I rarely can put someone on auto-buy for budgeting reasons. But the last couple of years I’ve bought a few books without reading the back cover copy just because this author’s name was on the front: Jim Butcher. And then I MET him at Comic-Con and he was so nice that he’s going to be auto-buy forever unless it comes down to his book or paying the rent. LOL!!!

Because Jim has written short stories for several anthologies that I’ve purchased only because his name was on the front, I’ve found a few new authors I want to follow, too. So there’s a whole “share the love” thing going on here. 🙂

I’m loving your blog this month, Debra!

Sounds like an auto-buy to me, Kitty! That’s how I feel about Susan Squires. As soon as I see she has a new one out, I’m on it. Love her Children of Merlin series.

  4. Love this topic! I’m a big historical fan, so my auto-buys are Eloisa James, Julia Quinn, Tessa Dare, and Sarah MacLean, to name a few.

I’m also obsessed with Susan Squires’s Children of Merlin series…dying for a new one to come out!

  5. Lisa says:

Nora Roberts/JD Robb are also on my list. Sherrylin Kenyon, Jenna Black, most Christine Feehan & Charlaine Harris series. I also like thrillers, so Brad Thor and Vince Flynn (May he rest in peace) and Diana Galbadon books are “auto-buys” as well.
